How To Articles...

What you will find here are various "How To" articles on many aspects of model construction. Some of these will be authored by Rusty Stumps Scale Models and other will be authored by noted master modelers for around the model railroading world. They will all be offered as downloadable PDF files. So, you have the choice of reading them on-line or saving them to your hard drive, printing them out and reading them off-line.

Ed Traxler provides a "step by Step" tutorial on how he assembled the HO scale HVAC Roof Top Kit #1. This was a "Proof" kit to make sure all went well. As Ed designed the HVAC fittings and the roof top layout it only seem right he should get to build the first of the kits. You are free to do your own thing but if you want to duplicate the setup show in the photo it's best to follow Ed's tutorial. Either way you can use what he's written to help install you Roof Top HVAC system. There are also tutorials on our website.

Mike Chambers first article offers us an insight to some of his methods of Staining and Weathering Stripwood. This five page article is the first of two dealing with this very interesting and helpful subject. Nearly all of us from one time or another have wondered about different methods of staining stripwood to get the "real aged wood" look to our buildings, trestles and other wood structures. Now you have something to help you with your endeavors.

Mike Chambers, again, has provided RSSM with one of his outstanding tutorial articles: Weathering Rusty Stumps Shingles. This 9 page PDF file will give you a real good oversight on Mike's methods of producing outstanding realistic looking shingles for his models.

He starts with our Random Shake Shingles in Medium Brown and adds various colorings to achieve these outstanding results.

Bruce DeYoung produced a video on how to use transfer tape to install Rusty Stumps Shingles. This is the first of at least two videos Bruce will post on YouTube.

ENERIC JOIST CONSTRUCTION JIG INSTRUCTIONS:

This is a typical use of our construction jigs available in many scales. It shows in the photo the use of these jigs. Take care and use carefully to get the best placement of joist for whatever building projects you have.
